The Ecosystem Service Provision Index as a generic indicator of ecosystem service supply for monitoring conservation targets

چکیده
At present, most governments, particularly in low and middle-income countries, are not effectively using ecosystem services (ES) indicators for conservation monitoring, which is part due to the complexity of current indicators. This study seeks contribute this implementation gap by illustrating performance a remote sensing based indicator, Ecosystem Services Provision Index (ESPI) (based on Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), as feasible indicator monitoring ES supply. We examined ESPI’s analyzing its spatial congruence (regression cluster analysis) with four type-specific indicators, namely timber provision, forage opportunities recreation water regulation, different types temperate native forests, non-native tree plantations, shrublands grasslands, within southern district Chile. additionally compared values ESPI across land uses covers means ANOVA Tuckey test (post-hoc). The regression analysis showed medium fitting linear non-linear variations ESPI. Unexplained variation can arise from dispersion sources: a) uncaptured specific flow their corresponding (specific ESPI), b) distances between parametric ESPI, c) mismatches scales resolutions. Cluster ESPI-ES hotspot 62% followed bundle (56%), (38%), supply (36%) provision (32%). regulation were significantly higher old growth forests. Our contributes establish what extent be used proxy supply, relevant adoption these outcomes when available or they lack necessary temporal coverage.

Modeling the Supply of Sediment Retention Ecosystem Service (Case study: Eastern Part of Gorgan-Rud Watershed)
Ecosystem services are benefits that people obtain from ecosystems. Soil retention is one of the most important ecosystem services. The capacity of ecosystem to maintain soil can be estimated by quantifying this services. In this study, version 3.0.0 of the InVEST software was used to map this ecosystem service in the eastern part of Gorgan-Rud watershed. The InVEST model employs the Universal ...
متن کاملEffects of the land use change on ecosystem service value
The impacts of land utilization change on the ecosystem service values in Daqing during 1995 to 2015 were analyzed based on unit area ecosystem service value of Chinese territorial ecosystem from Mr. Xie Gaodi and ecosystem service value calculation formula from Costanza. Results showed that the ecosystem service value of Daqing decreased from US $4343.1559m in 1995 to US $3824.327m in 2015, wi...
متن کاملEcosystem-service science and the way forward for conservation.
Conservation biology began life as a crisis discipline, its central tenet to understand and help reverse losses of biodiversity and habitat. Those losses continue unabated, implying that, as a discipline, we are failing in our central charge. A growing number of conservation biologists are therefore looking for a new way forward, and we believe that an increased focus on ecosystem services prov...
متن کاملBiomimetic Urban Design: Ecosystem Service Provision of Water and Energy
This paper presents an ecosystem biomimicry methodology for urban design called ecosystem service analysis. Ecosystem services analysis can provide quantifiable goals for urban ecological regeneration that are determined by site specific ecology and climate of an urban area. This is important given the large negative environmental impact that most cities currently have on ecosystems. If cities ...
متن کاملA Global System for Monitoring Ecosystem Service Change
Earth’s life-support systems are in flux, yet no centralized system to monitor and report these changes exists. Recognizing this, 77 nations agreed to establish the Group on Earth Observations (GEO). The GEO Biodiversity Observation Network (GEO BON) integrates existing data streams into one platform in order to provide a more complete picture of Earth’s biological and social systems. We presen...
